How to achieve Cate Blanchett’s Golden Globes classic style faux bob a la Grace Kelly:
Cate Blanchett scooped up the award for best actress in a drama for her role in Blue Jasmine, but she had already won in our favorite look award the moment we saw her first step onto the red carpet. Both her hair and her makeup were soft and romantic.
HER LOOK: HAIR
Hairstylist Robert Vetica was inspired by Grace Kelly’s classic style when crafting Cate’s faux bob. He first prepped her damp hair with a boost and lift foaming moose all over before creating a low side part and blow-drying the hair away from the face.
Once her hair was dry, Vetica spritzed protect and shine spray. Next, Vetica took a three-quarter-inch curling iron to Cate’s hair and arranged it in the back of her hair, curling it into two-inch sections. After it had cooled, he backcombed Cate’s hair to create texture and rolled it up into a faux bob, pinning it in place. A spray o flexible hold hairspray finished the look.
HER LOOK: MAKEUP
For her makeup, artist Jeanine Lobell wanted something soft and feminine. “We didn’t want to do the expected red lip to go with her gorgeous Armani black gown,” Lobell said. “So we went the softer route. No harsh lines. Instead, I blended colors for dimension.” On Cate’s lips, she painted a mix a raspberry rose and nude rose. Her eye look was created using the pink-beige and gold-beige shades from the lid to the lash line and then a pop of luminous shadow to the center of eyelids to add dimension without liners.
